SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. What this means is any and all data transferred from the website you are using to the server where all data is being stored is encrypted using mathematical formulas and then decrypted on the other side so that even if the information was intercepted, it would not be readable.
